Kashi Veggie Medley – Vegan Pocket Meal
Again Woodman’s. provides me with a bevy of food options. Every time I go there they have something new to buy. Let me just pause and also comment on something weird that I like. Their bathrooms.
I like to think of myself as a toilet paper connoisseur – I know it sounds weird – but I only like certain types on the fanny. I hate toilet paper that leaves you with fuzzies, or is scratchy, believe me when I say that it is an offense in my home to bring back anything other than what I like from the grocery store – I don’t care how cheap it was. Well, Woodman’s has a 15 roll toilet paper holder (a blessing when you are pregnant – I should get one for the house). They have about 7 different brands for use, and one of them is my favorite – Kleenex Cottonelle. ![]()
Back to my lunch. Last night (I shop late at any store that gives me the opportunity to avoid lines, screaming kids, etc. so I was there at my usual 2am) I picked up a new Kashi Veggie Medley. I only read the part that said Vegan, the picture looked good. So I was surprised when I bit into it that it didn’t taste how I had imagined. I imagined some sort of pizza puff – this was a cross between teriyaki and tomato sauce with what I thought were bamboo shoots, but turned out to be zucchini. yellow carrots.
I looked at the box and it is sold as "7 Whole Grains & Sesame Pocket Bread. Roasted Red Peppers, onions, zucchini, yellow carrots, broccoli, white beans and a balsamic basil sauce in our signature bread".
The bread was good, and after I got past the shock in taste, I have to admit it was very tasty. So onto the label:
280 calories, 7 g of fat, 1 g saturated fat, 49 g carbs, 6 g Fiber, 10 g protein, Vitamin A 20%, Vitamin C 20%, Calcium 6%, and Iron 10 % (my main reason for trying this). 400 mg ALA. This does contain soy and wheat ingredients.
The size on these things is always small, but if you add a small vegetable broth soup or salad you can make this into a substantial meal. I believe the price was $2.99.
I give this a 5 out of 7.
