Cold Weather is Cold Weather, or maybe Flu Weather

In the past every time we have a major change in seasons / climate I get ill.  Or if I am around smokers or go to a pool with a great deal of chlorine.  I have adult onset asthma and it gets exacerbated by certain conditions, brings on a bronchial infection or I have a sinus drip that does the same (as a child I was plagued by ear infections from swimming or bathing).

Since I have been pregnant, and even before, for the last 3 years roughly, I have not been ill.  I do not miss having white puss sacs in the back of my throat keeping me from swallowing, or hacking coughs, etc.  This past Halloween weekend we went to the Wisconsin Dells to Wilderness on the Lake to give my son one last only child trip.  I got sick.

Since my doctor has become a little loopy lately, and he has always been known for giving me antibiotics prophylactic – I have decided to try and wait this one out.  The last time I did this was right before the LSAT and I wound up with Pneumonia, on a nebulizer at the hospital the night before.  Mind you I let that one go on after knowing I had bronchitis that wasn’t getting better and had continued to work out until I reached the point that I was unable to make it from the bed to the bathroom without wheezing and almost passing out.  I was near 60% for oxygen absorption when I made it to the hospital.  One recommendation is always to get a humidifier, but I can only seem to find the cool mist ones – or sit in a hot shower.  The cool mist never works.  While at Babies R Us registering for gifts I found a children’s warm mist by Vicks, but it was $39.99 for a very small machine.  I decided to try Target across the street, they had one that is twice the size, lasts twelve hours and was only $37.49.  I picked it up and it has been a huge help – I also bought the inhalant that goes in the machine to make it release menthol vapors.

The best part of the machine – or advertising – is that it alerts you to being  up to 96 % bacteria free.  Now its the other 4% off bacteria I am worried about, the ones so strong they can’t be killed – but I am just paranoid, I wish they hadn’t even mentioned it on the box because that was all I could think about for about 20 minutes – what about the other 4%!!vicks
