Power Yoga and My New Heart Rate Watch

The studio space that holds my Monday Power Yoga at noon class has no clock, so I decided to wear my Oregon Scientific HR Watch.  I now know how this is strapless, it has two contact pads on the front that you place your pointer and middle finger on.  The only problem is, half of the time it doesn’t pick up a pulse when relaxed.  When I am exercising it picks it up in 2 seconds.  Today my HR got to 167 during an intensive flow series, but by the end of class it was at 88. I love this new monitor, it has a clock /  calendar, alarm, stopwatch, HR monitor and calorie counter (thought I can’t seem to get that to work  – I need to read the manual again). It’s a little clunky but so were my Polar Monitors and I abhorred the chest straps.

On to class. The room was super hot when I got in there. Two of the regulars were back, plus two of the new students from last week and one of the administrators (I believe she introduced herself the first week) were in class. This woman is ripped – seriously.  I hadn’t noticed before because she wears skirt suits and sits behind the front desk when I am in but in class you could tell.  She has to be near my mother’s age, maybe a few years younger because she has grandchildren too and her children sound like they are my age. She is the epitome of what working out can do to keep you young, vibrant and healthy.

Basically we…

Did several flows with a lot of Phalankasana to Adho Mukha Svanasana, modifications of plank including alternate leg/arm lifting and contracting, knee to chest plank flow to 3 legged dog, and a Virabhadrasana III to Ardha Utkatasana Flow.  We finished up with Vira I, Vira II, Reverse Warrior, Uttitha Trikonasana, Parvritta Uttitha Trikonasana flow and then some seated stretches before Savasana.

Looked at the space I want to open the studio in again last night with hubby, it seems doable, just not sure in this economy without any funding how I could make the needed renovations – unless I find a carpenter/contractor who wants to partial barter for free lessons!
