Yoga The Path to Holistic Health -by BKS Iyengar

 

As always, a very informative Iyengar book.  Starting with an academic view of yoga, yoga and fitness, chakras, and yoga and stress.  Then a break down of each pose by category (Standing, Forward Fold, etc) is given with large color photos, cautions, advice, and instructions for varying levels.  Next is a sequence section based on healing: Urinary, Respiratory, Women’s Health and more. Smaller photos reference the pages of the larger more in depth photos.  At the very end a 20 week course is given, anatomical charts, glossary, names of asanas and an index.  Don’t be put off by all of the props, you can always substitute household items until you can afford or find some of the props Iyengar uses. 

A must have for those interested in yoga as an alternative healing therapy – a great place to start.  Keep this one on your shelf and reference it a lot!
