Flex-Tastic Day One

home_flexbutton I received these in the mail because I am a yoga teacher and the producer of these wanted some feedback regarding their new product.  I decided why not blog about it? Like all other things I review – this is just my own honest opinion, unfiltered, unpaid so there is no relationship between me and the company.

So today is day one of trying these out. I am skeptical as they are specifically marketed as "Inspired by the healthy benefits of Yoga, the Flex-Tastic exerciser helps realign and relieve the pain of mistreated toes.  Wear for as little as 5 minutes a day to restore foot health, relieve stress and tension in both feet and legs, and increase circulation".

I must be totally honest here, I don’t buy into products like these.  Yoga toes, yoga socks, yoga sandals, the list goes on – these are just  ways to get more money out of a market place and target group.  If you have trouble during yoga keeping your feet in place then you aren’t using them correctly, same with your hands.  For thousands of years yogis managed without sticky mats, yoga gloves, etc.

I decided to give these a try because I have been having circulation problems – I am a little limited right now in the amount of poses I can do (today during class my Ardha Chandrasana, Hasta Pandaguthstasana and Natjarasana were very wobbly if not downright pathetic). They come with a little booklet with exercises, which should include better instructions as well, because from the picture above it would seem I decided to put mine on upside down, oh well, not worse for wear. The booklet includes some very basic yogic exercises for the feet that I have been incorporating into my practice, especially when teaching women who wear high heels a great deal (bad for you ladies!).

It says to start with 5 minutes, I left them on for 30 while I perused some blogs. I can’t sit in chairs without my right leg blowing up – 15 minutes for dinner is all I can manage, so I try to keep my legs on an opposite chair.

These did completely lift and separate the toes, engaged the tendons on the top of the foot – they popped right up like they should in yoga if you are stretching the foot east-west, north-south, etc. My right arch has been getting this second long burning sensation that fades every once and a while – this didn’t help that – but it did stretch the front of the lower leg – right through the shin – that was nice. It did not seem to help easy swelling in the leg though.

When I finally took the toes out of their little sling they pretty much remained separated, not as much as they were when held in place, and they relaxed about 15 minutes later.  I’m going to try these everyday for the next week and let you all know how it goes.

If you want to get a pair and try for yourself, I think they are less than $10?

I bought the Profoot Flex-tastic blue gel type at Walmart for $6. I downloaded a $1 off coupon from http://www.onlinecouponsavings.com/health-beauty/savings-on-profoot-products-discounts-with-profoot-1-coupon. Good deal! There is also a foam type with the same name Profoot Flex-tastic, but they seem more stiff and ridgid and I my opinion would seem much less comfortable. Go for the gel. I’m doing yoga I decided to get the Flex-tastic because my left-foot toes don’t seem to separate like my right-foot toes. And mostly, the left pinky toe tend to lie a bit sideways on the edge of the toenail, thus creating a small corn. (More than likely due to incorrect fitted shoes in my 30′s and 40′s. I’ve stopped that!) I’ve filed down this corn so it is smooth and have been using by Flex-tastics for only a week. So far I am able to spread my left toes more and have also developed the coordination to do this. Before using these I could not make my toes spread without manually doing so. Not yet sure if the Flex-tastic will help the pinky toe alignment; too soon to tell. I have considered getting a pair of the Vibram Five Fingers toe shoes. Several of my runner friends wear them. One says he now has yoga toes because the shoes actually separate each toe. At the expense of $85 and up, I went with the Flex-tastic. There are others out there for $40 with a little different design, but this is just a piece of formed gel. Get the coupon and pay only $5 and go with the gel type not foam.

Hello I do (barefooted) martial Arts, as well as run barefooted. I actually love these little things and use them quite often, I have both types Hard & soft gel one, I like the hard lavender ones better because the separate the toes more, and are more durable, the gel ones are in fact a little more comfortable, the hard ones can be gotten use to rather quickly, especially if you use your bare feet a lot. I do use both however

I bought mine at Wal-mart for around six dollars. Like the other poster mentions, there were to types; a clear light-blue gel type and an opaque lavender-colored foam-type. I bought the blue gel variety. So far I like them. I’m six-feet tall and have a 10.5 – 11 shoe size, and these fit me perfectly. I walked around the house in them after doing some exercises, and I can say they made my toes feel great, for at least a while. I suppose I should use them every day. For the price, and the short time put it using them, you can it.

Just came across your blog as I was looking up more about the Flex-tastic toe dividers. I don’t do yoga, but I purchased these yesterday because I’ve got four overlapping toes on each foot. For the past few years I’ve had some toe dividers that I think most people use to paint their toe nails, but I would wear them to bed periodically to help separate and straighten my toes. I lost those dividers and these new Flex-tastic fit the bill.

If you wear them to bed, your feet will start to hurt halfway through the night (assuming your toes are badly curled), but they do help if they become a regular part of your “taking care of feet” routine. And, it makes my feet feel better during the day when I wear my orthodics.

Great buy for $9-10! Just wanted to share my two cents even though I haven’t done yoga. But, I did try Zumba last week and it was awesome!

There were 2 different types where I bought mine; I bought the one that’s more like gel, clear blue. It was very hard to get my toes into it, seemed too big for my toes. Stretched them out much more than the picture on the box. Seems like they should come in different sizes.

Wow ~ I’ve seen something similar that costs a fortune! Think I will try these out ~ I had foot surgery on toes & bunions 15 years ago and my feet still look & feel great, but love the idea of “stretching” the toes etc.!! Also started Yoga almost 2 yrs. ago and now a very faithful 2 nights a week class attendee! Thanks for sharing

Thank you for sharing your story. You may also try Yoga, I have taken specific classes on yoga for the feet, which can help with bunions, etc.
