Yoga Class Tonight

Just eating my vegan butternut squash raviolis after teaching class. Tonight was mainly hip openers, hamstring and quad stretches and back work to prep for Danurasana, Natarajasana, and Hamunasana.

I started class by telling the students about my night, usually I leave out discussing life, but I like to give two of the students who come a little late due to holiday work a chance to get in, plus it was a funny story of sorts about how my son decided to call the police at 4:50 am to see if they would take him to the outpatient hospital because he has an ear infection and may be going deaf.  Mind you, at 5:14 when they are ringing the phone and banging on the front door / bell after I finally fell asleep from 2 hours of contractions, it wasn’t humorous.  I apologized profusely, and they spoke to my son.  We took him to the doctor’s and it turns out it is stress induced.  That contorting the face, grinding teeth, etc. hits the same nerve that water pressure does in the ear and this mimics ear infection pain.

Anyway, being the unenlightened individual that I am – I have to reservations about not overcoming my ego in this lifetime – I had a wonderful surprise after class.  The same woman who is part of a couple who takes classes with me (and made the first positive call the park district has ever had about an instructor to say how great they thought my class was) told me she wanted to give me something after class for the baby.  This was completely unexpected, and very appreciated.  She gave me a care pack from her work – kind of like the YogaFit packs we get as instructors – but full of baby products – she said "I want you to know this was all free from work".  I thought – how nice to think of me, so I went to her car to help her get this huge thing of everything I need – digital Braun thermometer, Baby cup for washing little heads, binky holder, first toothbrush, a grooming kit from Baby First and a sling thingy.  Then she pulls out a bag as large as my 7 year old and says, "there are gift receipts in here".  I was shocked.  She had bought us diapers, wipes, onesies, the perfect hospital weight receiving blankets and a cool soft teething photo album.  The best part – again because I have an ego – was the card "You helped us love yoga, thank you and good luck on your growing family." I was flabbergasted.  I loved and needed all of the gifts, but the card just took the cake for me since I worry a great deal about whether or not I do a good enough job for my students.
