Spin Cyclist in Aurora IL going for 12.5 Day Record

Spin Cyclist to Spin for 12 ½ Days for Injured Marines and World Record

Aurora, IL – Upon returning from a tour in Afghanistan as a law enforcement professional in support of Marines in May of 2009, George Hood, also a former Marine Corps officer, has been training diligently to break the world record for spin cycling and raise funding and awareness for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund <http://www.semperfifund.org> and its important mission of helping injured and critically ill servicemembers.
Beginning at 9:00pm on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at the Aurora Marketplace Shopping Center, George will attempt an amazing 12½ days of continuous peddling on his spin cycle! George has briefly held the world record twice before with his longest record set in May of 2008 at 177hrs and 45 minutes. That record was broken by Mehrzad Shirvani in Belgium in January of 2009. George’s current attempt will strive to go 300 hours over a 12½ day period!
Dubbed “George Hood’s Ride IV Reasons” campaign, George has set a fundraising goal of $200,000.00 that he will divide between the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund and the United Way of Fox Valley’s youth sports programs. To learn more about George’s visit <http://www.ridegeorgeride.org>

The Semper Fi Fund <http://www.semperfifund.org>  (SFF) is a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance and quality of life solutions for Marines and Sailors, as well as members of the Army, Air Force and Coast Guard who have served in support of Marine forces, when they become injured in post 9-11 combat or training operations, or are diagnosed with a life threatening illness, and their families. Our fund provides relief for immediate financial needs that arise during hospitalization and recovery as well as perpetuating needs such as home modifications, customized transportation and specialized equipment. When a service person is severely injured and hospitalized, the financial burden that is placed on that person and his or her family can add tremendous stress to an already frightening and stressful situation, and can have a devastating effect on a successful recovery. SFF helps bring financial relief and quality of life solutions to these situations and allows the service members and their families to focus on recovery.

SFF has awarded more than 18,300 financial grants totaling more than $37,000,000.00!

The Semper Fi Fund was founded by Karen Guenther, a registered nurse and spouse of an active duty Marine who had first-hand knowledge of the challenges faced by wounded Marines and Sailors returning from Iraq. She, along with a dedicated group of military spouses established IMSFF in May of 2004.
