The Choice Mom: The New Kind of Modern Day Mother & Emerging Parenting Trend
Fertility Centers of Illinois Celebrates Mother’s Day by Honoring and Spotlighting Choice Moms, the Emerging Trend of Single Mothers by Choice
Chicago, IL (April 21, 2010) On Sunday, May 9th over 82.5 million mothers in the United States will be honored for their devotion, love and guidance. At the same time, Fertility Centers of Illinois is setting out to spotlight an emerging parenting trend and unique kind of new mother. Newly coined the “Choice Mom” and otherwise referred to as single mothers by choice, these modern day moms are courageous and unique women who – either through adoption or sperm donation – choose to take on the sole responsibility of parenthood and become the nurturer, provider, and complete parenting unit for a child. Recognizing this undertaking deserves both recognition and celebration, FCI is paying special homage to the Choice Mom this Mother’s Day.
Dr. Maria Fournier, FCI patient and local Choice Mom from the Chicagoland area, is ecstatic and grateful for her nine month old son John Nicholas. Maria explains that she knew she could always get married, but that she wouldn’t always be able to have a baby. “I treasure every minute that I have with my son, and my first Mother’s Day as a new Mom will be a very special day for me and my entire family,” she adds.
Dr. Angie Beltsos, Medical Director of the Fertility Centers of Illinois and Maria’s physician, was determined to help her fulfill her parenting dreams. “We worked together to make this dream a reality and I was overjoyed to deliver the news to Maria that she was expecting. Becoming a parent is a life-changing experience and it means so much to me that through modern technology, it is something that Maria can now experience,” she explained.
