Packing a Protein Punch Premier Protein Shakes and Bars

Screen Shot 2015-03-04 at 8.26.17 AM

I recently received a box containing Premier Protein shakes and bars to review.  Unfortunately they contain dairy so I was unable to review them personally. I did hand them out to an office full of IT workers, and they were a hit as a quick grab and eat during busy work sessions.

Is it a wonder with delicious protein bar packed flavors such as:

and smooth shakes in a variety of flavors:

  • CHOCOLATE – 11 oz.
  • VANILLA – 11 oz.
  • CHOCOLATE, SINGLE – 14 oz.
  • VANILLA, SINGLE – 14 oz.

Premier Protein has teamed up with worldpantry.com to offer a 100% guarantee on their products, “If you are not absolutely satisfied with your purchase, for any reason, let us know. We will promptly replace the item or give you a refund of its purchase price. It’s that simple.” With over 400K followers on FB they must be doing something right.

If you have problems getting protein powder down due to its chalkiness, look no further than their Recipes page which has some great ideas on how to integrate the powder into delicious smoothies. They also own another label, Joint Juice.

Functional Foods Company Quest Nutrition Delivers the

image Holy Grail of Protein Bars – The Quest Bar

Los Angeles, CA (August 16, 2012)– The fitness nutrition market is a crowded space with heavy saturation and little innovation. Case in point, hundreds of protein bars were introduced the year before the Southern California company Quest Nutrition was founded. Despite the deafening noise created by all of the new products, Quest experienced more than 18 months of exponential month-over-month growth by leading with an inspirational philosophy and the holy grail of protein bars.

“The team here at Quest lives by a simple philosophy – human potential is nearly unlimited.” explained COO Tom Bilyeu. “Most protein bars are just candy in disguise, and we were all excited by the challenge of pushing the boundaries of food science and creating the first perfect protein bar – one that’s made exclusively of the highest quality ingredients, doesn’t use any junk or make any nutritional compromises and still tastes delicious.”

Quest Nutrition and its flagship product Quest Bar, has inspired fierce loyalty among health and fitness aficionados, who recognize the uncompromising nutritional values of Quest’s entire line of products. Distinguished by a proprietary, patent-pending process, Quest Bars are the first high-protein, high-fiber, low-carb bars, with zero added sugar. Each junk-free bar contains a full 20g of the highest-quality whey protein available, only 2-6g of active carbs with no maltitol or other sugar alcohols that cause digestive upset. “Our biggest competitive advantage is our reckless willingness to go all the way in our product formulations. We go all the way to the point where elite physique competitors make them a part of their daily routine” explained Penna. “There were a thousand reasons not to make this bar – the proteins are way too expensive, the production process is fantastically difficult even with high-tech equipment, getting the flavors right took years, and getting the bars shelf-stable without sugar or preservatives forced us to literally re-conceive the entire bar making process, just to name a few.”

The gamble paid off as evidenced by the ever-expanding community of early adopters that have begun recommending Quest products through social media and good old fashioned word of mouth. Those recommendations have transformed Quest from an exclusively online company just over a year ago, to being available in more than 5,500 stores across the U.S., including national retailers GNC and The Vitamin Shoppe.  In addition to fueling growth, this

focus on quality and nutritional efficacy has garnered Quest the recommendation of trainers, nutritionists and other health professionals that are on their own quest to turn the tide against obesity and all of its associated ailments – a fight that Quest is proud to be involved in.

Since launching, Quest has steadily amassed more than 160,000 Facebook Likes (Facebook.com/QuestNutrition); from everyday active, health-conscious consumers to top fitness competitors, bodybuilders, yoga enthusiasts, low carb dieters, and professional athletes. “Social media allows for an incredible level of meaningful community engagement,” explains Nick Robinson, Chief Marketing Officer for Quest. “But it can be a double-edged sword; if you’re disingenuous, or trying to push a sales agenda, people will not engage. That’s why we’ve always focused on adding value in everything we do.”

That type of two-way involvement has made Quest a different kind of company. “The deep relationship with our customer keeps us focused on delivering results,” continued Pena. “The success of our customers’ goals is our focus. Profits have to be born of our success in that endeavor.”

Myth of High Protein Diets

The myth of high-protein diets

Sport dietitian stresses importance of carbohydrate for success in athletics

Champaign, IL–Many athletes believe protein is the most critical nutrient for athletic success. But according to Dan Benardot, author of the new edition of Advanced Sports Nutrition (Human Kinetics, January 2012), carbohydrate is vital for sustaining muscular endurance and mental function. "Large doses of protein do little to improve athletic performance when replacing carbohydrate," says Benardot. "The recent popularity of higher-protein, higher-fat, and lower-carbohydrate diets has serious and potentially negative implications for athletic performance."

Delivering the right amount of carbohydrate at the right time optimizes the limited carbohydrate stores, ensures better carbohydrate delivery to the brain, reduces the possibility of depleting the limited stores, and sustains athletic performance at a high level. "Carbohydrate adequacy becomes even more critical at higher levels of exercise intensity because there is a greater reliance on carbohydrate as a source of muscular fuel," Benardot explains. "Higher-intensity training regimens, therefore, may require more frequent intake of carbohydrate to satisfy this need."

Although carbohydrate is vital for athletic success, not all types of carbohydrate are created equal. Athletes should carefully consider the best type of carbohydrate to consume before, during, and after exercise. Consumption of highly digestible, starch-based carbohydrate is best before a competition, sugar consumption is fine during a competition, and other types of carbohydrate, including whole grains and vegetables with significant sources of fiber, are good the rest of the time.

During competition Benardot stresses the importance of glucose, the main fuel for the creation of muscular energy. "Higher exercise intensities have a progressively higher reliance on glucose as a fuel," Benardot says. "Failure to sustain glucose delivery to working muscles results in a cessation of the high-intensity activity, commonly referred to as ‘hitting a wall.’ Therefore, understanding how to avoid glucose depletion should become a major focus of an athlete’s nutrition practices."

Premier Protein Shake, Low Sugar, High Protein

image I recently received a sample from Premier Nutrition of The Premier Protein Shake. This shake contains 30 grams of high quality protein, 1 gram of sugar, and is just 160 calories. Plus each shake is nutrient rich with 8 Essential Amino Acids, 24 Vitamins & Minerals and is an excellent source of Calcium.

Available in Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry.

Not only do Premier Protein Shakes provide individuals with a quick source of protein but they come in a package that is made mainly from a renewable resource that is responsibly replenished. The recommended usage of Premier Protein Shakes is as a meal or snack replacement.

Although these premade shakes are easy to drink on their own, there are some other great ways to include them in your daily meals

  • Add a shake to your favorite smoothie recipe
  • Add to coffee as a sweetener
  • Replace milk in hot or cold cereal
  • In place of milk with everyday meals

Now, these protein shakes are made with milk protein and whey so they are perfect for vegetarians looking to increase protein, but not vegans like myself.  The company received a lot of flack for changing their recipe earlier this year, but having never purchased these before I would not know, and therefore can not say.

Since I am a vegan, and pregnant I gave the Strawberry Premier Protein shake to my husband to try.  He is always looking to up his protein intake and sampled this for me.  I can say for sure it was not too thick to pour as previously reported in reviews, and definitely needs to be shaken in order to mix the contents fully.  These are best consumed very cold.  As for the taste, my husband and I are not big faux strawberry fans (he doesn’t care for real strawberries either) but although like many “strawberry” flavored drinks it did not hit the mark, it did not have any rude after taste, it was creamy and well blended.

Svelte: Creamy, Yummy and High in Protein

I received an email from http://www.mambosprouts.com a site that is dedicated to healthy green living and offers coupons, reviews, recipes and more.  They asked if I would be interested in reviewing Svelte drinks and recently I received a box with Chocolate, French Vanilla, Spiced Chai and Cappuccino.

I cracked open the Chocolate after we finished moving.  It was smooth and creamy kind of like melted chocolate ice cream. Now, one container is listed as a serving, but there was no way I could finish one whole container in a sitting, the stuff is very filling. CalNaturale, the makers of Svelte, were smart enough to use a container with a twist top, so you can keep your Svelte fresh even if you get full and can’t finish it.  It took my a week to finish the Chocolate, I sipped on it here and there before and after fitness classes to give me a quick boost.

Since I am not a fan of vanilla drinks in general I decided to add Svelte French Vanilla to our pancake mix instead of soymilk.  It was fantastic! Our pancakes were fluffy with a delicious hint of vanilla and of course packed with protein thanks to Svelte’s high protein content.

The Spiced Chai was good enough to drink on its own, but I also decided to try cooking with it and added it to my Apple Spice cake instead of milk (and applesauce instead of oil).  Again, a perfect recipe.   The cake was moist and fluffy (which it isn’t always when I try substitutions) and my family loved it so much I only got a tiny piece when I got home from Zumba Class – oh well I can always pick up more Svelte.

I did not try the Cappuccino flavor because I hate coffee. So this week’s Facebook Fan Page Giveaway at: http://www.facebook.com/skyyogastudioIL is Svelte.  Simply become a fan on FB post a comment under the GIVEAWAY Listing and your number could be drawn at random.  You must be willing to pick up at Sky Yoga Studio in Naperville IL

Titan Protein Cookie Unveiled: High Protein, Great Taste

Carlsbad, CA, (August 22, 2010) —Premier Nutrition®, an industry leader dedicated to developing great-tasting, high protein products, is pleased to announce the release of their newest nutritional creation—The TITAN High Protein Cookie. Premier Nutrition, who previously led the protein bar competition with the TITAN® the first 6-Layer Bar, is known for creating innovative nutrition products with advanced formulas, exceptional nutritional values and outstanding taste. After months of refining the perfect soft and chewy texture that boasts a savory “fresh- from-the-oven” flavor, TITAN revolutionizes the protein cookie with three indulgent flavors: Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin and Peanut Butter.

“Long gone are the days of bland and chalky tasting protein snacks,” says Charlene Corn, Director of Marketing. “You can produce protein supplements all you want, but if they don’t have a taste that satisfies, you won’t go far. We’ve spent countless hours perfecting this recipe and we’re confident that it’s the best tasting product on the market—see for yourself!”

With 20 grams of high quality protein in each pack of cookies, TITAN is perfect for a mid-day snack or as a “grab on the go” meal replacement. TITAN High Protein cookie is low in sugar, has no trans-fat and is power packed with nutrition, catering to everyone from the body-building professional to the fitness enthusiast. The TITAN High Protein Cookie helps build muscle while satisfying your sweet tooth!

TITAN High Protein Cookies retail for $2.99 per pack and are now available in leading health and fitness stores including The Vitamin Shoppe, select grocery and convenience stores and online at www.PremierNutrition.com or www.BodyBuilding.com.

ABOUT PREMIER NUTRITION: Since 1997, Premier Nutrition has been dedicated to researching and developing nutrition products with advanced formulas, outstanding taste and exceptional nutritional values. The company was started by friends – Chris Geist, Lance Rankin and Kerry Law. The trio first met in 1993 working for a leading nutrition company. Frustrated the company was not considering formulation changes to fit the market interest in a high protein, low carbohydrate bar, they decided to start a bar company of their own.

Premier Nutrition currently manufactures: Premier Protein Bars, Premier Protein Shakes, Premier Protein Meal Replacement Powder, Twisted® Natural Energy Bar, Rocket Shot® and TITAN High Protein Bar. Premier Nutrition distributes throughout North America, Australia and Europe.

That’s right, there’s a new cookie in town – The Titan from Premier Nutrition, you may know them from that delicious melding of nougat, pretzels and caramel loaded with protein called the Twisted Bar, well they are now bringing the world’s health conscious snackers and bodybuilders the best in baked goods with three new mouth watering cookies.

Don’t just take my word for it, I was sent sample cookies and automatically shared them with my husband who is an avid bodybuilder and even more selective about his protein supplements – whether they are bars, cookies or brownies.

So what did my protein pro have to say about the Titan? “Mmmmmm”. Yep, yummy!  He scarfed down the delicious 150 calorie protein packed treat without batting an eye and loved every bite.  He was even more impressed with the high protein amount, 20 grams per pack, with only 5 grams of sugar – not an easy feat to pull off it seems.  Most other companies sacrifice texture to pack in protein and leave you with a gritty tasting, poorly formed cookie – not the TITAN!  It was like eating a fresh baked soft cookie.  Not only did he get to enjoy his cookie, each package comes with two, so he had double the deliciousness.

Interested in sampling a taste of these cookies?  Well as a nut allergy household we were unable to try the Peanut Butter flavor, but we are so sure it is delicious we are willing to share it with you.  Pop on over to our Facebook Fan Page and comment under the COOKIE GIVEAWAY to win a sample cookie, then hop on over to http://www.premiernutrition.com and find a retailer near you or order online!

Bring 12,000 Year Old Pasta to Life: Einkorn from Jovial

As a vegan mother of two vegan boys I am always looking for new ways to introduce B vitamins, and protein in to our diets.  We are a big pasta family and up until now purchase a wheat pasta at the grocery store from a well known company.  It is the least ropey we have found, since wheat pastas tend to be thick and taste like cardboard.

I was contacted by a rep for Jovial who offers Einkorn Pasta, made from a grain our Bronze Age ancestors would have eaten.  Sound odd? Sure, the name looks weird, and the pasta itself when dry has an oddly textured feel and a marbled look, but judge a pasta until you try it is my motto.
